Anime Expeditions Meta & Best Teams (September 2026)
Which units win together right now — not just which units rank highest on their own. For individual rankings, see the tier list.
Meta snapshot — September 2026
- Summer Siege is being tracked separately. Version 0.5 is still the last fully structured ranking source used for the comps below. Update 2.0 added nine roster-verified Summer Siege units, but they remain unranked here until a complete official/stat-backed tier order is available.
- The meta is top-heavy. S-tier units dominate because they stack damage, utility and scaling in one slot. Below B tier, units are temporary.
- Every winning comp has an economy unit. Ramen Guy is an Epic and still appears in endgame teams — gold throughput decides how fast you can place your carries.
- Support is undervalued.Salmon Sorcerer's Slow and Stagger multiply your entire damage core. It beats adding a third damage unit in almost every case.
- The roster is still shallow. Only Mythic and Secret units meaningfully move the needle, which makes trait and equipment investment matter more than roster breadth.
Best team comps
Endgame comp
If you have the pullsThe ceiling team. Two hard carries, one crowd-control support and one economy unit, which is the shape every strong comp in this game ends up taking.
Dark Mage (Sovereign)
Primary carryRanked #1 overall and #1 DPS on the official list since the Villain Update — and only Mythic, so pity is 400 summons rather than 10,000.
Shadow (Divine)
Carry / supportRanks in DPS, Support and Crowd-Control simultaneously. The slot keeps paying off after a pure damage unit would have been benched.
8th Sword (Berserk)
Single-target carrySecond in DPS and your boss answer. Also the only top-tier unit with a deterministic path — 35 Spirit City Raid Act 3 clears.
Puppet (Telekinetic)
Support / CCThe best Support in the game and Top 5 overall. Wants Optics rather than Unbound — the most common trait mistake in this comp.
Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1)
Crowd controlThe #1 Crowd-Control unit. Holding enemies inside everyone else's range multiplies the whole board.
Ramen Guy
EconomyA Legendary Farm unit that stays in endgame comps because throughput decides how fast you place carries. Its passive only applies per player, and only while placed.
F2P / realistic comp
No Secret or Mythic pullsWhat you can actually field in your first week without a Secret unit. This clears the large majority of content — the gap to the endgame comp is speed, not capability.
Flame Emperor (Reincarnate)
Primary carryStrong early and mid-game DPS, and the single best unit for a new player to build first.
Crimson (Brother)
Secondary DPSConsistent damage that carries early and mid expeditions comfortably.
Lady Giant (Envy)
BurstHigh raw damage ceiling against grouped enemies and bosses.
Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1)
SupportThe one Legendary worth prioritising — it makes a weaker damage core work.
Ramen Guy
EconomyBuild this before any second carry. Faster gold means faster everything.
True Saint (Holy)
FillerDependable through the early expeditions. Replace it the moment a Legendary lands.
Gold farming comp
For grinding, not clearingBuilt to maximise gold per run rather than clear speed. Worth swapping to once you are farming for Armory unlocks and Gold Shop rerolls.
Ramen Guy
Economy corePut the Investor trait (+25% Income) here. This one decision speeds up your whole account.
Flame Emperor (Reincarnate)
Clear speedCheap to place and fast enough to keep the run moving without starving your economy.
Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1)
SupportSlow means fewer leaks on a comp deliberately running light on damage.
Elf Mage (Unleashed)
CoverageVersatile caster with good range and elemental coverage to plug gaps.
Where to put your resources
Priority order for a mid-game account. Doing these out of order is the most common reason accounts stall.
- 1
Get Ramen Guy running with Investor
Economy first. +25% Income on your farm unit compounds across every expedition you run from that point on.
- 2
Bring one carry to A-tier traits — not three to B
Trait Crystals spread across your whole roster is the classic trap. Concentrate on the single unit you field every run.
- 3
Unlock the Armory at Level 20
Equipment rerolls are the biggest mid-game power spike available, and unit-specific gear carries an exclusive passive on top of its stats.
- 4
Only then chase a second carry
A fully invested single carry clears more than two half-built ones. Breadth is the last thing to buy, not the first.

Meta FAQ
What is the current meta in Anime Expeditions?
Summer Siege (Update 2.0) added nine source-verified unit lines and the official Fandom tier-list page refreshed, but the accessible API text does not expose a complete ordered ranking. Until official/stat-backed placements stabilize, this page keeps the last structured meta snapshot under review instead of inventing ranks for Lightning God, Sovereign, Jester, Kitsune, Head Captain, Rainman, Sand, Sharkfang or Water Mage.
What is the best team in Anime Expeditions?
Dark Mage (Sovereign) and Shadow (Divine) as carries, 8th Sword (Berserk) for bosses, Puppet (Telekinetic) for support, Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1) for crowd control and a Farm unit for economy. Without a Secret, the realistic core is Puppet, Salmon Sorcerer, Lady Giant and Elf Mage — all obtainable from the Beginner's Banner — plus Stone Alchemist for economy.
Is the meta different from the tier list?
Yes, and confusing the two is a common mistake. The tier list ranks units individually — how strong a unit is on its own. The meta is about which combinations win right now, which is why an Epic like Ramen Guy appears in endgame comps despite ranking below several Legendaries.
What should I spend Trait Crystals on in the current meta?
Your primary carry first, and only your primary carry, until it hits A tier or better. The single highest-value non-carry decision is putting Investor (+25% Income) on Ramen Guy — economy compounds across every run afterwards. Do not spend crystals on units below A tier that you intend to replace.
Which units are overrated right now?
Anything below B tier is a temporary investment, and starter units in particular should never receive Trait Crystals. Enlightenment (+50% EXP) is the most overrated trait — it goes completely dead at max level. And unit-specific equipment on a bench unit is wasted: the exclusive passive only matters on a carry you actually field.
