Anime Expeditions Game Modes (July 2026)
Every mode in the game, what level it unlocks at, and what it is actually worth farming. The two that change your account most — Expeditions and Raid — are both gated behind a player level, so the order you approach them in matters.
The unlock order that matters
Story and Challenge from the start → Expeditions at level 20 (Armory + Gold Mine) → Raid at level 25 (Equipment, Raid Tokens, and the Secret unit 8th Sword). Everything else is optional. Getting to level 20 quickly is the single highest-value thing a new account can do.
Progressive
Linear modes that unlock one another, each with its own rewards.
Story
Available from the startThe main progression mode. Five maps at launch — School Grounds, Flower Forest, Rose Kingdom, Fairy King Forest and King's Tomb — each containing 5 Acts, a Mastery Act and an Infinite mode.
Rewards: Materials, Equipment, and Trait Rerolls from Star Missions.
Worth knowing: Star Missions are the part people skip. Each Act has one-time objectives worth a Trait Reroll each, across both Normal and Hard — 6 rerolls per Act. That is a large amount of free rerolling sitting in content you have already cleared.
Raid
Player level 25Harder, shorter progression content. Each Raid has three Acts with its own map, its own Food type and Raid-specific rewards. Spirit City is the current Raid.
Rewards: Equipment, Raid Tokens for the Raid Shop, and stage-exclusive unit drops.
Worth knowing: Buy Raid Totems before grinding. Each gives +0.10x damage in its raid and you can own 10 — a flat x2 damage permanently. Spirit City Raid Act 3 is also the only source of the Secret unit 8th Sword (Berserk): 1% per clear, guaranteed at 35 clears.
Challenge
Available earlyStory stages on Hard with extra Stage Effects. Rotations are global — every player shares the same reset timer.
Rewards: Trait Crystals, Sprites, Gems, Gold, Equipment Rerolls, Stat Rerolls and Locks.
Worth knowing: Three rotation types with different cooldowns: Regular offers 3 choices but only 1 completion every 30 minutes, Daily resets every 24 hours, and Weekly resets every 7 days with the highest-value rewards. The Regular 30-minute timer is the main renewable source of reroll materials.
Expeditions
Player level 20A linear payload defence through Nodes, plus a base-building layer. You construct an Expedition Center and then the Research Lab, Armory, Gold Mine, Training Grounds, Resource Drill, Shop and Quest Board.
Rewards: Resources and currency for your Expedition Hub buildings, across three difficulties.
Worth knowing: This is the mode that changes your account. The Armory (equipment rerolling) and the Gold Mine (passive Gold) both live here. Note the placement rules differ: up to 4 players share a 14-unit limit, and every unit is capped at 1 placement.
Competitive
Leaderboard modes on cyclical season resets.
Tournament
Available once unlocked in the Play menuRotating stages scored on a leaderboard inside a randomly assigned bracket, in Solo or Duo. Resets weekly.
Rewards: Crowns for the Tournament Shop, plus season-exclusive units and skins.
Worth knowing: The only source of some units — Season 1's Toy Maker cannot be summoned at any rate. Full breakdown on the tournament guide.
Global Tournament
Requires Infinite mode accessBuilt on the Infinite stage system. Score is purely the highest wave reached, and every map runs its own separate leaderboard. Up to 4 players per entry.
Rewards: Season accessories, titles and a skin — Season 1 gave Elf Mage (Ranni).
Worth knowing: Seasons run per major update rather than weekly, so this is the slower, longer-horizon ladder of the two.
Other
Modes that do not fit the other two groups.
Sandbox
Available in the Play menuThe testing mode. Pick any map and manipulate almost every match variable through the Controls panel — starting Yen, base health, wave number, game speed, player-count scaling, and any unit at any level.
Rewards: None. Nothing here counts toward progression.
Worth knowing: Genuinely useful before a tournament: you can set the exact wave and modifiers you expect and test whether your team holds, without burning a real attempt.
AFK Chamber
Requires a previously cleared Story stagePassive progression. Pick a Story stage you have already beaten and the game simulates clears while you are away.
Rewards: That stage's reward pool, at a reduced rate.
Worth knowing: Rewards generate every 175% of your fastest clear time on that stage, at 75% of the normal rate — so pick the stage with your best clear time, not the highest-level one. Equipment drop rates are not reduced at all, which makes it a full-value equipment farm. VIP and Roblox Plus each add +25% AFK speed and stack to +50%.
Event modes
Crow Hideout — Villain Invasion
Limited event mode from the Villain Update (0.5). You defend multiple paths at once across 3 Acts, collecting Crow Relics, before facing Crow himself in Crow Mode. It is the main source of Villain Coins, which are the only currency the limited Villain Banner accepts — so this mode is the entire acquisition path for the Secret unit Crow.
Event modes leave when the event does. Unlike Story or Raid, there is no catching up later.
Level up faster to unlock the modes that matter
Expeditions at level 20 is the real gate on your account. Codes give Gems and rerolls that make the climb there considerably shorter.
Game modes FAQ
What game modes are in Anime Expeditions?
The Play menu splits modes into three groups. Progressive: Story, Raid, Challenge and Expeditions. Competitive: Tournament and Global Tournament. Other: Sandbox. On top of those there is the AFK Chamber for passive rewards, and limited event modes such as Crow Hideout during the Villain Invasion.
What level do you unlock Expeditions in Anime Expeditions?
Player level 20. It unlocks the Expedition Hub, where you build the Expedition Center and then the Armory for equipment rerolling and the Gold Mine for passive Gold. Raid unlocks a little later at player level 25.
What is Infinite mode in Anime Expeditions?
Every Story map has an Infinite act that draws from that map's enemy pool into an endless wave sequence. The HP formula is uncapped, so it gets exponentially harder the longer you survive. It is also what Global Tournament scores you on — your ranking there is simply the highest wave you reached.
What is the Time Chamber in Anime Expeditions?
The Time Chamber was the pre-release event that ran July 14–17, 2026, letting players bank Gems and rerolls before the public launch. It is not a current game mode, and the Roblox title tag [Time Chamber] was replaced at release. The mode people usually mean today is the AFK Chamber, which generates rewards passively from a Story stage you have already cleared.
What is the best mode to farm Gold in Anime Expeditions?
The Gold Mine in Expeditions, once you reach level 20 and build it. At Level 1 it produces 2,000–2,500 Gold per Fuel Cell, and Level 2 raises that to 4,000–5,000, each on a 300-second cycle. Before level 20, clear Story, run Daily and Weekly quests, and leave the AFK Chamber running.
How many players can play Anime Expeditions together?
Story and Expeditions support up to 4 players, and Global Tournament allows up to 4 per entry. Tournament is Solo or Duo only. In Expeditions the 4 players share a single 14-unit placement limit rather than getting their own.
